I don’t see family law as a job. It’s a calling. You need passion and dedication to do it well. I love what I do.
Get to know Venisha
Having qualified as a solicitor in 1992, I have a huge amount of experience in family law and joined Slater and Gordon’s family law team in London in 2019.
I deal with divorce and finances, children arrangements, cohabitation disputes as well helping with protective measures such as pre-nuptial agreements and cohabitation agreements.
Despite my years of experience, I’m constantly surprised with the strength and resilience shown by my clients when dealing with often traumatic and difficult issues in their personal lives. I believe a good family lawyer needs to have empathy but also the strength of character to be firm and frank when necessary.
I would describe my approach as firm and direct, yet approachable and sensitive. I believe in going the extra mile for my clients and believe that the key to working well with them is to have a good sense of humour.
There is no specific matter that stands out over any other during my career. However, it has been a pleasure to really touch people’s lives. I have dealt with older clients who have had to learn to be self-sufficient which can be traumatic when you are not used to it. I have dealt with domestic abuse victims and have been in awe of their courage. I have had amazing feedback from clients about how their lives have changed for the better. And most of all, I have made some great friends along the way.
I have been recognised in the Legal 500 and one interviewee has said “Venisha Shah is very experienced and a superb all-round lawyer”.
The extra mile
