Expert profile of Sara Abbas

Get to know Sara

I joined Slater and Gordon’s serious injury department in 2021 upon qualifying as a solicitor.

Prior to joining the firm, I worked on a wide range of civil claims for compensation and public law cases against various public authorities including the police and immigration authorities. I have expertise in representing claimants in actions arising from breaches of the Human Rights Act; providing advice, assistance, and representation to bereaved families at inquests; and contributing to the representation of core participants at public inquiries.

I now specialise in public inquiry work and sit within Slater and Gordon’s team representing a cohort of core participants in the Grenfell Tower inquiry. I also assist in representing those individuals in claims for compensation, flowing from claims in negligence and breaches of the Human Rights and Equality Acts.

In addition, I assist those who have suffered life changing injuries as a result of accidents across all areas of personal injury. This includes representing those with catastrophic injuries or bereaved families following road traffic collisions.

Career highlights

I am proud to have assisted claimants through my work in numerous areas of civil liberties practice, including:

  • Private law claims against the police for false imprisonment, assault, negligence, discrimination, breaches of the Human Rights Act, data breaches;
  • Inquest proceedings and civil claims arising from deaths in custody, including restraint related deaths; and,
  • Public and private law claims brought by individuals and their families who were detained by the Home Office or who were separated through immigration detention.
