Mohini advises employees and employee organisations on all aspects of employment law with particular expertise in equality cases and whistleblowing.
Mohini’s clients have included individuals with a mental health condition experiencing disability discrimination; individuals facing indirect sex discrimination as a result of making a request for flexible working, and individuals being subject to race and sex discrimination in the workplace often coupled with harassment and victimisation.
Mohini also undertakes civil actions against the police in areas of wrongful arrest, malicious prosecution and misfeasance in public office. Much of the work is for individual police officers.
She has achieved high value settlements in complex discrimination and civil action claims.
The Legal 500 describes Mohini as “a star solicitor building a niche in complex discrimination claims.”
Mohini has been involved in some widely reported cases including Paterson v MPS, which tested the parameters of disability discrimination legislation and is now one of the leading authorities and Barbara Lynford v Sussex Police, where Mohini acted for a firearms officer in a claim for sexual harassment. Her client obtained the highest public sector damages award at the time and the case led to Mohini being named as The Times Lawyer of the week.
Currently, Mohini is litigating a number of claims in the High Court.
Mohini has published a range of articles and delivered seminars on discrimination issues. She is an executive trustee of The Discrimination Law Association, a registered charity, which seeks to secure improvements in discrimination law and practice in the UK and at an international level.
Before joining Slater and Gordon (formerly Russell Jones & Walker), Mohini trained at magic circle firm Linklaters. She has a Masters in medical law and ethics and was awarded the Windsor scholarship for law school.
“Mohini has shown herself in my eyes to be not only professional and extremely confident but also someone who is kind, patient, compassionate and a pleasure to have met. Mohini was determined to achieve the best possible outcome. I have been extremely lucky and honoured to have had her fighting my corner and lucky that she was not on the other side.”
