Leona Roberts Solicitor, Criminal and Misconduct
Leona is a criminal defence solicitor in the Criminal & Misconduct team at Slater and Gordon Lawyers based in our London office.
She has a wide range of experience, representing clients in all aspects of criminal and disciplinary investigations. Leona is highly skilled in representing individuals from arrest through to advocacy during court proceedings.
Leona specialises in representing police officers and has successfully represented numerous firearms officers during IOPC criminal investigations, most recently following the December 2018 Westminster shooting and January 2019 Hackney shooting. She also advises officers during post incident procedures (police firearms incidents, deaths in police custody and high speed driving pursuits).
Leona regularly receives instructions to represent individuals during Coronial proceedings. Many cases are highly complex and sensitive in nature. Some of her most high-profile cases include the Leroy Medford, Jermaine Baker & Christine & Lucy Lee Inquests.
Leona continues to develop her practice and has been involved in Judicial Review proceedings on the controversial issue surrounding the standard of self defence within disciplinary proceedings.
She has experience in representing individuals facing Misconduct in Public Office allegations and currently represents one of six Defendants in the first ever prosecution under section 55 (1) (a) of the Data Protection Act 1998 before the Crown Court.
Leona attends Toynbee Hall Legal Centre to provide free legal advice on a wide range of legal issues.
Her wider interests include classical music and travelling. She is a member of the Bach Choir and welsh speaking Côr y Boro, London.
