James Walbeoff Senior Associate (Litigation Executive), Criminal & Misconduct
James is a Criminal Defence and a Police Station Accredited Representative at Slater and Gordon Lawyers in Birmingham.
He is predominantly instructed by the Police Federation of England & Wales to represent Police Officers in both Criminal & Misconduct and Disciplinary proceedings.
James has 15 years’ experience in defending Police Officers in proceedings brought under the Police Conduct Regulations. In addition James has represented Police Officers in a wide range of serious criminal defence investigations and criminal proceedings in both the Magistrates and Crown Court. This experience includes defending officers accused of;
- Misconduct in a Public Office
- Serious sexual offences
- Fatal road traffic collisions.
James is also regularly instructed to advise and assist Key Police Witnesses at Post Incident Procedures in death and serious injury cases.
James has advised clients and the Police Federation in relation to Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigations including investigations in fatal police pursuits, the use of Taser and the deployment of Firearms Officers where suspects have been shot and seriously injured by the Police.
James has experience in assisting Interested Persons and the Police Federation in Coroners Inquests including deaths following Police pursuits and deaths in custody.
James has also been instructed by the Royal College of Nursing to advise and represent its members in criminal investigations undertaken by both the Police and Internal Departments of the NHS.
James career in law began in 2001 in a private practice in Cardiff for Hugh James Solicitors and then Lloyd & Rowe Solicitors where he was employed as a Police Station Advisor and Litigation Executive before joining our Cardiff Criminal Defence team in January 2004. In 2005 James transferred to our Criminal Defence Team in Birmingham where he has acted on behalf of Police Officers from the West Midlands, West Mercia, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Leicestershire Police Forces.
