Nick was involved in a motorcycle collision which resulted in him losing his leg
Nick Bushaway was riding his motorcycle when a driver pulled out causing a serious collision. As a result, Nick lost his leg. Watch his story and how Slater and Gordon helped.
Nick was riding his motorbike to a friend’s house, wearing a fluorescent jacket and all his safety gear, when a car pulled out and forced him onto the other side of the road. The car then turned right which made Nick hit the front of the car.
Immediately after the collision, Nick knew that something bad had happened to his leg as he was in horrendous pain. An ambulance arrived and took him straight to hospital where he received treatment for his severely damaged leg.
When Nick returned home from hospital, he was in so much pain that he remained housebound and this caused him to suffer depression. After four years of unsuccessful treatments and 13 operations, Nick made the very difficult decision to undergo an operation to have his leg amputated.
Learning to walk again was quite difficult for Nick at first and it took him a while to get used to it, but he challenged himself and pushed himself to move forward and concentrate on getting healthier.
