Meet our rehab co-ordinator: Kirsty Richards
At Slater and Gordon, we strive to offer holistic support as well as expert legal representation. Our trusted and experienced support network across the field of rehabilitation work hard to support clients on their road to recovery.
After an injury, a legal claim is only part of a much bigger process on the journey to recovery. Support for the client's day to day life is vital and our rehabilitation co-ordinators play a vital role in this. Kirsty Richards has spent her career supporting patients and clients through some of the toughest parts of their lives, working hard to empower and support them.
When asked about her day-to-day duties Kirsty shared that the job varies every day and between each client, all dependent on their needs. The objective is to create a personalised plan and optimise a client's access to support. This support can vary based on the client's need between referrals back to clinical care or helping them secure financial support. Through these personalised plans, there is also support for the family of the client.
This personalised support and the fact that it begins from day one, is what Kirsty believes is the biggest benefit of her job for clients. Rehab co-ordinators work hard from the first day to champion what is important to the client and offer information to bridge gaps in knowledge about support they could request. Kirsty believes her job is to be accessible, informative and supportive at what can be an incredibly isolating and scary time. She focuses on what is important to the client and works with other professionals towards these goals. Kirsty believes this is a vital part or helping clients transition from what they thought their life would look like, to what it can look like.
How can a rehab co-ordinator help?
Rehab co-ordinators support clients and provide clear information about their rehabilitation pathway. They create tailored plans based on a client’s needs and advocate for timely and appropriate support. Rehab co-ordinators can also connect clients with charities and voluntary agencies for additional support and a community to connect with. The role is about understanding the life changes our clients are experiencing and being empathetic, resilient and supportive. By addressing the needs of our clients, rehab co-ordinators play a vital role in our client's recovery journey.
