I appreciate that pursuing a claim is sometimes a daunting prospect and aim to provide my clients the support they need to take them through the process. I have a methodical and pragmatic approach and am committed to achieving the best possible results.
Get to know Julie
I began my working life as a Legal Secretary in the Claimant Personal Injury Department of a Cardiff law firm in 1991.
I progressed through various support roles before taking the step in 2010 to representing my own clients in the Road Traffic Accident Department, whilst studying in the evenings. I have specialised solely in medical negligence since 2013. I qualified as a Chartered Legal Executive in 2016.
I have managed a wide range of medical negligence cases including those involving missed or delayed diagnosis, orthopaedic injuries, surgical errors, prescription errors, cauda equina, fatalities and birth injuries. I have assisted clients through Inquests and the Appeal process.
I just wanted to say a huge thank you. Particularly to Julie Maiden. She’s been absolutely amazing all the way through. She’s really taken the time to understand my case & the effects is had on me, and been really empathetic & supportive. She’s been there all the way through with regular updates - sometimes responding at 8/9pm, and at the weekend too. After being told by a couple of other companies I didn’t have a case, just to have it acknowledged that what I went through was wrong was amazing. To have Julie build a case & support me all the way to winning - it’s fantastic. Thanks to your company & Julie in particular, I can get on with my life now & my partner & I can plan our future. Client testimonial
My sister had a medical negligence case. Slater and Gordon, and Julie Maiden in particular were extremely efficient with the way they proceeded. Although it took some time to come to a conclusion, they (and especially Julie) negotiated hard and eventually got a satisfactory result. She was very professional and kept my sister informed every step of the way. We can’t thank her enough and would certainly recommend them. Client testimonial
Just to thank you for the work you have done on our behalf, it is most appreciated and the outcome is far better that we could have hoped. Client testimonial
Career highlights
I have had many career highlights and any case where a successful outcome is achieved on behalf of one of my clients is a highlight.
Some of my career highlights include:
- A successful outcome at Trial in a case involving a prescription error, resulting in the client suffering a stroke. Finally achieving settlement in a complex claim arising from a misdiagnosis of cancer, resulting in unnecessary surgery and its consequences, which had been denied by the Hospital Trust throughout.
- Achieving settlement of £100,000+ in a case where the Trust had initially offered £15,000. My client already had complex medical needs which were made worse by a failure to identify and treat an infection following hernia repair surgery. Having my client tell me that the settlement gave him peace of mind as he entered his old age was a particular career highlight for me.
- Supporting a client through an Inquest following the death of her husband whilst detained under the Mental Health Act and seeing her finally getting the answers she’d been waiting for.
- Helping my client achieve a substantial settlement in a complex case in which he had suffered a stroke as a result of negligent treatment, meaning he could afford to move into new accommodation which better suited his needs.
- Working on a case heard in the Court of Appeal has also been a particular career highlight.
