Six-Figure Settlement For Mother Killed in Motorbike Hit and Run

16 January 2017

The family of a woman killed in a hit and run by a motorcyclist were awarded a six-figure settlement following her tragic death.

Settlement: £100,000

Slater and Gordon Solicitor: Jennifer Maloney is a principal lawyer specialising in serious injury claims at Slater and Gordon in Manchester.

What Happened: Our client was severely injured in a road traffic accident involving an uninsured motorcyclist. She was standing in the chevroned area between two carriageways when the motorcyclist hit her.

The motorcyclist fled the scene and attempted to hide his bike. He then went home and tried to take out insurance to cover him.

Impact: Our client was so badly injured that her family was warned she may not survive. She fractured her pelvis,  several ribs had become lodged in her lung and suffered a serious injury to her leg

She had to have 12 bouts of surgery, including reconstruction of her leg and amputation below the knee.

Our client developed pneumonia as a result of a puncture in her lung from the accident. She remained in hospital until her death six months later.

How Slater and Gordon Helped: We  provided support to the family  prior to our client’s death, arranged medical appointments including rehabilitation, obtained medical records, and sorted out funding. When our client died, Slater and Gordon then continued to support the family, obtaining the best settlement possible.

Decision: Settlement of £100,000.
