£245,000 Compensation for Widow in Fatal Accident Claim

A woman whose husband was tragically killed in a road traffic accident has received substantial compensation.

What Happened: Our client’s husband was driving his car in Peterborough when the defendant driver failed to give way.
The defendant driver collided at speed with the driver door aspect of our client’s husband’s vehicle causing his death.

The defendant was prosecuted for causing death by dangerous driving. The police report became available at the successful conclusion of the trial and the defendant driver’s insurance company admitted civil liability.
The focus of the claim shifted to one of quantum that was complicated due to the lack of employment and educational documents available from Iraq. The claim was premised on what our client’s husband had achieved in the UK – which included several years’ employment – and the hopes and aspirations that our client’s family had for their future.
Decision: £245,000 compensation was approved by the Queen’s Bench Division of the High Court.
