Much of Mohini’s work is for individual police officers. She advises in both contentious and non-contentious matters but a substantial part of her practice involves advising and litigating discrimination claims of all types, often complex multi-faceted claims in the tribunals and courts. Within this area, Mohini has a particular interest and expertise in disability discrimination law.

Mohini also notably undertakes civil actions against the police in areas of wrongful arrest, malicious prosecution, misfeasance in public office, and discrimination claims in the context of provision of services. She has achieved high value settlements in complex discrimination and civil action claims.

Notable and reported cases include:

  • Mrs P Sweeney - v- The Chief Constable of Sussex Police (2005) - successful indirect sex discrimination claim in relation to a requirement to work on call in a specialist post.
  • Mr D Paterson -v- The Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis (2007) UKEAT/0635/06/LA - victory on behalf of a police officer who was put at a substantial disadvantage when competing in the examination process for promotion because of his dyslexia. The EAT gave helpful guidance on what constitutes the day-to-day activities for the purposes of the DDA. The case was widely publicised.
  • Ms Barbara Lynford -v- The Chief Constable of Sussex (2007) - successful sex discrimination claim involving harassment on behalf of a firearms officer based at Gatwick. Remedy to be determined.
  • R (Saunders) -v- The Independent Police Complaints Commission (2009) EWCA Civ 18 - interested party in the judicial review concerning the fatal shooting of a barrister by police.

Mohini was a speaker at the British Dyslexia Conferenceand has been involved in delivering seminars for clients. She has also delivered training to the national mental health charity, Mind, on mental health and DDA issues. Mohini was The Times lawyer of the week on 11 December 2007.

Mohini trained at magic circle firm, Linklaters, where she qualified into the litigation department. Mohini joined Russell Jones & Walker, now Slater and Gordon Lawyers, in 2004.

Mohini is a member of Discrimination Law Association and the Employment Lawyer's Association.
