A group of employees at a major food company are facing redundancy, it has emerged.
According to the Bolton News, Warburtons is looking to cut 28 jobs from its workforce at its bakery in The Valley in Bolton in the near future.
The company - the UK's largest independent bakery business, which employs some 4,500 professionals nationwide - has begun the 3-day consultation process with 111 members of staff at the site.
Last month, the organisation shed 55 positions with the closure of its bakery in Blackpool and it cited a combination of the introduction of new machinery and declining sales of bread as the reasons for its upcoming cuts in Bolton.
Jonathan Warburton, chief executive of the company, said the decision to implement redundancies has not been easy.
"We appreciate how tough a period this is for our employees and we will work closely with them and their representatives to discuss our proposal and explore all options," he added.
