Ex-deputy head awarded unfair dismissal damages
An employment tribunal has resulted in an ex-deputy headteacher who took legal action against her place of work receiving damages for unfair dismissal.
Deborah Ellis was fired from her post at the Hafod Y Wern Community School in Wrexham in February 2011 after being accused of subjecting a six-year-old pupil of "physical and emotional abuse".
This claim arose after CCTV captured images of Ms Ellis - who had worked for the school for ten years - and a colleague carrying the boy inside from the playground back to his classroom in June 2010.
The pupil's parents did not make a complaint against the 51-year-old professional, but her employer took the decision to sack her regardless.
Subsequently, Ms Ellis took the school to a tribunal and a confidential settlement has now been reached.
She commented: "It has been very emotional … it's had a huge impact on my family and myself. I'm so relieved it's over."
