Redundancy advice could be needed by hundreds of professionals at one local authority in the north of England.
According to the Telegraph & Argus, some 500 jobs at Bradford Council are thought to be in danger of being lost in the near future after the body was informed of the need to operate on a budget of £30 million less next year.
Ian Greenwood, leader of the council, has told the news source he cannot guarantee there will not be large-scale redundancies in the coming months and he has already written to employees there to warn them of the prospective job cuts.
Mr Greenwood insisted this decision had been taken out of the authority's control due to the "massive government cutbacks that we think are too far and too fast".
Trade union Unison - which has more than 1.3 million members nationwide - has called on Bradford Council to fight back against the spending reductions to limit the damage inflicted on its workforce.
