Sibling wins unfair dismissal case
An unfair dismissal case has been won by a worker who was made redundant by his brother.
Justin Williams was victorious after suing his sibling Jason, the company owner of Lasertech UK, the Warrington Guardian reports.
The latter claimed he needed to make his relative - and fellow director - redundant because a £440,000 legal bill had to be paid.
However, the presiding judge stated Mr Williams' evidence was "wholly unconvincing".
He explained: "The company had given a rationale for [Justin's] selection which we wholly rejected. We therefore conclude that Justin was unfairly dismissed."
It was found that documents promised by Jason Williams to support his defence did not exist, but he claimed after that the ruling will not lead to any job losses at Lasertech's base on Gemini Business Park, which is located in Warrington, Cheshire.
The tribunal service has yet to confirm the level of damages involved in the case, while Justin Williams said he is now keen to pursue his own business career.
