Woman who suffered brain damage in crash to receive compensation
A woman who sustained serious injuries in a road accident in 2004 is to receive a considerable sum in compensation.
Deborah Parkes was struck by a van whose driver was attempting to overtake a car which turned into its path.
The van was deflected on to the pavement, striking her as she walked to work.
As a result of the force of the impact, she will require care for the rest of her life.
She had to spend a number of months in hospital after the incident and has lived in a series of care homes since.
Recently, car driver Simon Bowyer won the right to appeal a previous ruling which would have seen his insurers foot the bill.
He claimed that Daniel Clark - who was in control of the van - should have taken more care when overtaking.
As a result, the case will go to the Court of Appeal - which hears all appeals in leading cases of civil and family justice.
