Football club to receive libel damages
A football club has revealed it is to receive compensation from a newspaper over claims made concerning its finances.
Norwich City Football Club said it will be paid a five-figure sum by the News of the World, the BBC reports.
The publication - a British tabloid produced by the News of the World - printed a piece suggesting that the club was going into administration.
Entitled "Canaries on the brink", the article appeared in January of this year.
Norwich City chairman Alan Bowkett remarked: "We are delighted this matter has been sensibly resolved, that the truth has been established and that the club's reputation is restored."
He went on to suggest that it was "disappointing" that the News of the World published the piece but the club is pleased the matter has now been concluded.
As well as receiving money, Norwich will get an apology and its legal fees will be covered.
