The Tribunals Service (TS) is piloting a scheme under which hearings will be held in the evenings between 18:00 BST and 20:00 BST.
Designed to clear the backlog of employment tribunals waiting to be heard, the initiative will be trialled in east London and Cardiff from early next month.
According to the TS, which was created in April 2006 as an executive agency of the Ministry of Justice, the project will run for six months.
The tribunals which will take place in the evenings will be the more "straight-forward" ones, it suggested, leaving more complex cases to be heard during normal hours, Personnel Today reports.
"Both employees and employers have indicated that they would prefer to have the option of attending a hearing outside normal business hours to enable them to fit it in around their work schedule," the TS stated.
It added that the scheme is being run in response to anecdotal feedback it has received from people who have used the service.
