Cyclist injured by pothole secures compensation
A woman who suffered injuries after a pothole caused her to fall from her bike has been awarded compensation of £10,500.
Lisa Simpson secured the payout from North Lincolnshire council, the Scunthorpe Telegraph reports.
The 28-year-old had been travelling home from work along Bushfield Road in Scunthorpe when the accident happened in October 2004.
She hit the pothole and subsequently went over her handlebars, suffering breaks to both her elbows as a result.
Ms Simpson said she had limited movement in her arms as a result of the crash.
She added: I couldn't go to the toilet by myself and my mum had to shower me - it wasn't a nice experience, I felt useless and embarrassed. I couldn't feed myself or anything."
A spokesperson for the local authority, which is Ashby Road in Scunthorpe, said that it regularly inspects roads for potholes and other defects in line with national guidelines.
