Compensation awarded to family of asbestos victim
The family of a man who died as a result of exposure to asbestos have received compensation.
Although the precise terms of the settlement have not been revealed, it is a six-figure sum, the expressandstar.com reports.
Colin Allen came into contact with asbestos while working for F & EV Linford and Sir Alfred McAlpine Capital Projects.
Both firms recently agreed to an out-of-court settlement with his widow, Dorothy.
Mr Allen was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2004 and died three months later.
"Colin and I had both worked hard all of our adult lives, in addition to raising our son David," stated Ms Allen.
She added: "We were looking forward to spending more time together during our retirement but that was tragically cut short by his illness."
According to figures cited by Cancer Research UK, around 2,100 people are diagnosed with mesothelioma in Britain each year. The majority of sufferers are men.
