David Walliams and Matt Lucas have accepted a public apology and libel damages over claims that the American version of their Little Britain comedy show upset gay protest groups.
The action was taken against Express Newspapers after the Daily Star Sunday printed a story in September suggesting that Lucas and Walliams had offended gay protesters in Little Britain USA through what it termed "gay and fatty jokes".
In the article, it was claimed that spokesmen for the protest groups were calling for a boycott of the show, which runs on US TV network HBO.
During the case at London's High Court, Mr Justice Eady heard that there were in fact no protests and that the groups in question did not seem to be in existence.
Lucas and Walliams felt that they had suffered great damage to their reputations as a result of the article and had been in distress over the issue, the duo's advocate said.
Counsel for Express Newspapers said the company offered its apologies for printing the false material.
