Crocked jockey awarded £85k compensation
A jockey has been awarded £85,000 in compensation after suffering a career-ending injury, it has been reported.
Andrew Ball, 40, picked up the injury when a horse kicked him while working at a horse yard in Lockeridge, according to a report from the Wiltshire Gazette and Herald.
As a result, his tibia was fractured, leaving his leg so weakened that he is now unable to ride a horse.
Mr Ball's settlement was won from the insurers of Lockeridge trainer Heidi Sweeting.
Commenting on the outcome of the case, Mr Ball, who is currently retraining as a chef, said: "My family and I have been through hell but now have some security for the future."
Mr Ball had previously been an apprentice affiliated to Jeremy Tree in Beckhampton, and had travelled to the US and Germany to compete in races.
