Food shoppers in Derbyshire are being warned of a product recall by Morrisons supermarket due to the potential risk of food poisoning.

Supermarket HamThe FSA (Food Standards Agency) has reported Morrisons supermarket was recalling ‘Savers Cooked Ham’ following the “detection of Listeria monocytogenes.”

A spokesperson from the FSA said, "As a precautionary measure, Morrisons are recalling the product. There is a possibility that this product may pose a microbiological risk if consumed. We advise anyone who has purchased this product not to consume it and return it to their nearest store for a full refund."

Have You Bought Contaminated Food?

The product being recalled is:

• Morrisons ‘Savers Cooked Ham’
• Use-by date: 11th September
• 200g package

A notice in Morrisons stores states, "There is a possibility that this product may pose a microbiological risk if consumed. We advise anyone who has purchased this product not to consume it and return it to their nearest store for a full refund. No other products or date codes are affected."

Slater and Gordon Senior Personal Injury Solicitor, Michael Hardacre, commented, “The law says that food must be sold free from harmful bacteria which could cause food poisoning. If you can establish that the food was not safe, that it has made you ill and that the cause of the illness is the unsafe food, then you are likely to be able to recover compensation”.

What is Listeria Food Poisoning?

Listeria monocytogenes is bacteria that can multiply at 30-37 degrees, but also multiplies better than other bacteria at refrigerator temperatures, making it a considerable risk for ‘ready to eat’ food like Morrisons’ ‘Savers Cooked Ham’. It can cause vomiting, diarrhoea and high fever. In extreme cases it can cause meningitis.

If you have purchased ‘Savers Cooked Ham’ and find that you or a member of your family has taken ill and found out from your doctor that it is through food poisoning, you should keep any receipts for medication purchased together with copies of any written complaints made.

Slater and Gordon Lawyers have secured compensation for many people who suffered from food poisoning in the UK and abroad caused by Salmonella, Listeria, Campylobacter, Hepatitis A virus and E. Coli.
