Partner Claims Clinical Negligence Compensation for Comatose Mother

The partner of a woman who suffered irreversible brain damage when giving birth has made a successful clinical negligence compensation claim on her behalf, it was recently reported.

Christian Cooper was 46 when she gave birth to her third child who tragically died before turning two. London’s High Court discovered that the heart failure she suffered as a result of a blood clot in her brain, could have been avoided if she was given sufficient doses of the blood thinner Heparin.

In tragic cases such as this, where the patient is left in a minimally responsive state, it is possible for the family to make a Clinical Negligence claim. In this example Mrs Cooper’s former partner sued the Berkshire Hospital Trust on her behalf.

We understand that when families have been impacted by such an awful loss, often what is most important is that justice is brought.

Many families seek assurance that the same mistake will not happen again and cause more heartache for others.

It is important to note that formal complaints must be made within six months.
