Canon Rideout has been convicted today at Lewes Crown Court of 34 indecent assaults and two attempted rapes. The majority of the assaults took place at Ilfield Hall Children’s Home where Rideout was an assistant curate between 1962 and 1973.
The conviction demonstrates that perpetrators of abuse can be brought to justice no matter how long ago the abuse occurred and whether they are famous or not. We hope that this conviction will give other victims of abuse the confidence to come forward and speak out about their abuse.
