Trevor Sterling, Lead Lawyer for the Jimmy Savile Inquiry Group appeared this week on Newsnight to discuss the Savile Child Abuse Claims.
Slater and Gordon Abuse Lawyer Trevor Sterling, comments on his recent Newsnight interview about the Jimmy Savile abuse allegations and specifically, the need to examine how institutions handle complaints of abuse.
The system has been too compartmentalised. When an allegation of abuse is made agencies and institutions do not share enough information with each other. There are a lack of mechanisms and protocol leading to an inability for agencies that support children and young people to communicate with each other.
There are important lessons to be learned here. When an abuse allegation is made but the evidence is not strong enough for a conviction, information must be stored and re-activated if further allegations are made.
It is vital that we achieve Justice for the victims of these terrible abuses. After so many years of pain they deserve the recognition of their trauma that is so important for the healing process.
