Nisha Sharma: Update on Mr Paterson, Cleavage Sparing Mastectomy Claims

By Senior Associate, Clinical Negligence

I am representing both NHS and private patients with claims in relation to cleavage sparing mastectomies.

The NHS recall procedure has been far from satisfactory; internal reviews into Mr Paterson's technique were carried out in 2004 and 2007 but the recall process was not commenced until 2010.

However the approach taken by the private hospital at which Mr Paterson used to practice has been non existent. Russell Jones & Walker wrote to Mr Paterson at Little Aston Hospital in March 2011 asking what he was going to do to recall his private patients. To this day we have not had a response.

I am therefore pleased to be told that the process of sending recall letters to Mr Paterson's private patients has finally commenced. Apparently the first round of letters were sent to patients on 3rd January 2012.Nisha Sharma is a solicitor specialising in clinical negligence.
