I pride myself in being able to help clients who have suffered injuries through no fault of their own. As most of my clients haven’t been through the claims process before, I aim to make it as straightforward as I can to help them to achieve the best possible resolution for their claim.
Get to know Claire
I joined Slater and Gordon in 2015. Before qualifying as a solicitor, I worked as a litigation executive and trained with the firm. I am now based in our clinical negligence team.
I specialise in a range of complex medical negligence cases including claims concerning surgical errors, spinal injuries, dental negligence, eye surgery negligence, misdiagnosis and delayed diagnosis. I have a particular interest in managing fatal claims made by relatives who have lost a loved one and have experience in dealing with claims involving complex injuries.
Additionally, I have experience in advising clients on personal injury claims, including road traffic accidents, employer’s liability and public liability claims.
Career highlights
Every time I achieve compensation for a client is a career highlight for me. However, one case that stands out for me is during my training I had the opportunity to assist in a complex fatal accident enquiry on behalf of a family, who had a relative suffer a fatal accident at work. This experience has led to my interest in assisting families who have lost a relative as a result of medical negligence achieve justice for their loss.
I have been recognised in the 2022 edition of the independent legal guide, Legal 500, as a 'Key Lawyer' in my field. It states: "Claire Paterson’s approach is always client-focused. She has good judgement and is a welcome support."
The extra mile
I am currently serving as Secretary of the Scottish Young Lawyers’ Association (SYLA), who aim to educate and represent young lawyers across Scotland. I have been involved in the committee since 2017 and throughout my time have organised a number of CPD and social events.
I also volunteer as a mentor through the Law Society of Scotland’s career mentoring programme.
My lawyer, Claire Paterson, was very informative about each stage of the process. She dealt with my multiple requests for information with friendly and timely email communication. I would happily recommend Claire and the company as a whole to anyone who is making a personal injury claim.
