Her practice encompasses all areas of family law, including mainly divorce / dissolution. Helen is particularly experienced in resolving the division of matrimonial assets arising from the breakdown of a relationship or marriage and is an expert in advising on the particular issue of the division of a pension. Helen has a particular interest unmarried property disputes.
Helen is experienced in representing all ranks of police officers across the UK, involving the particular considerations arising from the treatment of police pensions on divorce.
Helen is a skilled negotiator and will always press to resolve disputes without Court intervention. If litigation does become necessary, Helen is a highly experienced Court Advocate, representing clients to the highest level.
Helen trained at a High Street Firm in Preston, under the supervision of the now District Judge Greensmith and qualified into the Family Department in 2009. Upon qualification, Helen continued working with the Firm, until she moved to join the RJW, now Slater and Gordon Lawyers, family team in March 2012.
Helen graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2005. Helen then completed the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law, Chester in 2007, gaining a Commendation.
Wishing to develop her advocacy and negotiation skills further, and whilst continuing to work full-time, Helen embarked upon the part-time Bar Vocational Course at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2008. Helen gained a Very Competent, and qualified as a Barrister in 2010.
Helen is a member of Resolution. Resolution adopts a code of conduct to attempt to deal with matters on a non confrontational basis where possible. Helen is also a member of Manchester Young Solicitors Group.
Helen regularly contributes to various Federations publications, on all Family Law issues.
