Helen Budge Solicitor, Clinical Negligence

Experience Profile

Helen is a specialist clinical negligence lawyer at Slater and Gordon Lawyers in Manchester.

Helen manages her own mixed case load of clinical negligence work. This includes high value cases involving brain and spinal injures, delayed cancer diagnoses, serious orthopedic injuries, eye injuries and fatalities. She also handles lower value cases and has developed her skills in obtaining prompt resolution for the client without recourse to litigation.

In addition, Helen assists partners in the department with cases of maximum severity such as birth injury cases. In 2007, she was closely involved in a case for a child who suffered from cerebral palsy which settled in the sum of £2, 500, 000.

Helen has a particular interest in cases involving medical ethics and the application of the Human Rights Act in a medical context. In 2005 she assisted Emma Holt in the House of Lords appeal in JD v East Berkshire Community NHS Trust and Others which sought to extend the duty of care in cases of misdiagnosis of child abuse.

Helen regularly lectures for BPP Professional Education, presenting a course on clinical negligence litigation for its continuing professional development programme. She also lectured to student podiatrists at Salford University on issues of consent to treatment.
