Warehouse worker crushed by sofa awarded compensation
13 December 2017
A warehouse employee received a five-figure compensation settlement after a stack of sofas fell on him, resulting in severe injuries.
What happened: Our client was employed by a warehouse distribution centre. On the day of the accident, he was unloading a lorry which had arrived at the warehouse filled with furniture. Sofas were unsafely stacked and as our client and his colleague were attempting to unload them, one fell from height, landing directly on top of him.
Impact: Our client suffered head, neck, and psychological injuries. As a result, he was unable to return to his job as a warehouse operative.
How Slater and Gordon helped: We obtained medical evidence proving our client suffered the neck injury due to the sofa landing on his head and compressing his spine. We arranged Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT treatment), which helped relieve some of our client’s on-going psychological issues. Legal proceedings commenced and the advice of senior counsel was sought.
Decision: Following negotiations, a settlement figure of £55,000 was agreed.
