A metal worker took legal action and received a six-figure payout when a steel rod fell onto him as a result of the negligence of his employer.

Slater and Gordon Lawyer: Tracey Benson is head of the employers’ liability team at Slater and Gordon Lawyers in London.

What Happened: Our client was employed as a metal worker on a building site when a heavy metal rod fell on him.

Impact: He suffered a fractured tibia and fibula and was unable to return to work because of his injuries, resulting in a loss of earnings.

How Slater and Gordon Helped: We submitted a claim and our client’s employers accepted liability. We obtained medical evidence and then arranged treatment on a private basis for our client, the cost of which was added to the claim. All of the evidence was disclosed and a six-figure settlement was reached.

Decision: Six-figure settlement.
