Slater and Gordon Lawyer: Carol Hopwood is a principal lawyer specialising in serious injury at Slater and Gordon in Liverpool.

Settlement: £7 million.

What Happened: Our client suffered a life-changing spinal cord injury following an accident caused by a heavy goods vehicle.

Impact: Her injuries were so severe that she was no longer able to work and could not return to live in her own home. She had complex care needs and required a rehabilitation team.

How Slater and Gordon Helped: We secured an early interim payment of £650k and the appointment of a very experienced SCI case manager who helped to ensure that the client had the correct care and rehab in place upon discharge from hospital. We were able to assist on the purchase of alternative accommodation, which is currently being adapted to meet her needs.

Decision: A settlement of more than £7 million was awarded, comprising of a lump sum, periodical payments and provisional damages.
