Holidaymaker Awarded Settlement For Faulty Hotel Door Injuries
04 April 2017
A young holidaymaker received a four-figure settlement when he was injured by the faulty doors of his hotel room in Spain.
Slater and Gordon Solicitor: James Griffin is a travel litigation lawyer at Slater and Gordon in London.
What Happened: At the time of the accident our client was a minor on a non-package holiday in Menorca, Spain. As he opened the French doors to his apartment, a strong gust of wind caused them to blow back and shatter on him.
Impact: Our client suffered significant lacerations which required stitches and caused some scarring. The scarring also caused our client to suffer psychological trauma.
How Slater and Gordon Helped: As our client was on a non-package holiday, we pursued the Spanish insurer directly through the English courts. Following commencement of proceedings in England, the Spanish insurer instructed English solicitors to deal with the claim. We arranged medical evidence from both a plastic surgeon and psychologist to assist our client with his recovery. We settled the matter with the hotel’s English solicitors before reaching a trial.
Decision / Settlement: €9,000.
