£1.7 Million Awarded To Brain-Injured Road Accident Victim
29 November 2016
The victim of a road traffic accident was awarded a settlement of £1.7 million for care needs and rehabilitation after suffering a brain injury.
Slater and Gordon Lawyer: Mark Luxton is an associate, specialising in personal injury law at the Slater and Gordon offices in London.
Settlement: £1.7 million
What Happened: Our client was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a driver who fled the accident scene and was ultimately arrested and charged with drink driving.
Impact: The accident resulted in serious brain injuries. Our client had previously been living an independent life but had no family to help following the accident. As a result of their injuries, there is no realistic prospect that they will ever be independent enough to be able to take on paid employment again.
How Slater and Gordon Helped: Our client now lacks the capacity to manage their own financial affairs so a deputy has been appointed to look after them by our Court of Protection department.
We were able to arrange an extensive program of private rehabilitation over a period of some years to give our client the best chance for the best recovery they could hope to achieve. At the end of the program our client’s capabilities were assessed and further payments were made to facilitate our client’s care needs for the rest of their life.
Decision: Seven-figure settlement.
