Six-Figure Settlement For Dependents of Car Crash Victim
19 July 2016
The partner of motorist who was killed in a tragic road traffic accident was awarded a six-figure settlement in damages to support his dependents.
Slater and Gordon Solicitor: Matthew Claxson is a principal lawyer at Slater and Gordon in London, specialising in serious injury and fatal incident claims.
Settlement Value: £235,000
What Happened: Our client was driving on the motorway when a heavy goods vehicle negligently turned out of a road stop, pulling onto the road in front of his car.
Impact: He was tragically killed.
How Slater and Gordon Helped: We were instructed by our client’s long term partner, who brought a claim on behalf of our client’s estate and dependents for his loss of income. The defendant was a foreign national, therefore we had to identify the foreign insurance company before liaising with their solicitors situated in the UK.
The claim required us to build a picture of what the loss to be claimed was based upon evidence gathered from the employer and government agencies.
The insurance solicitor’s formal valuation of the claim was significantly below that of our own but after negotiation a more reasonable offer was achieved.
Decision: A settlement of £235,000 was reached.
