A woman was left with severe back pain after a faulty pub chair collapsed beneath her, for which damages were awarded for her injuries.

Slater and Gordon Solicitor: Shelley Barker is a Litigation Executive at Slater and Gordon Lawyers in Sheffield.

Settlement Value: Four-figure settlement.

What Happened: Our client sat down in the outside seating area of a pub when the chair collapsed underneath her and she suffered serious injury to her back. Our investigations revealed that, because the chair was left outside in all weather, hinges holding the legs to the base had become rusted and worn. Consequently when the client sat down on the chair, one of the hinges snapped.

Impact: Our client described being in immediate and severe pain following the incident and needed specialist treatment from a chiropractor to aid her recovery.

How Slater and Gordon Helped: Medical evidence was obtained and treatment from a chiropractor was arranged. As a result, the client has since made a full recovery.

Decision: A confidential four-figure settlement was awarded.
