Five-figure Settlement for Man Knocked Down on Pedestrian Crossing in Belgium

30 June 2016

Man left with leg injuries after being hit by car on pedestrian crossing in Belgium is awarded five-figure settlement.

Slater and Gordon Lawyer: Simon Weilding is a travel litigation lawyer at Slater and Gordon in Manchester.

Settlement: £5,200

What Happened: Our client was working abroad in Belgium. Whilst on his employer’s property he was crossing the road on a pedestrian crossing when he was hit by a car.

Impact: Our client suffered injuries to his ankle and leg, and psychological symptoms as a result of the accident. He made a full recovery after physiotherapy but was left with some scarring.

How Slater and Gordon Helped: Although Belgian law applied, our experts in international law were able to bring a claim against the Belgian insurer of the vehicle involved. We issued court proceedings, but soon after managed to successfully negotiate a settlement which the client was more than happy with.

Decision: Settlement of £5,200 was agreed for injuries suffered and expenses incurred.
