Over £150,000 for Complications Arising after Road Traffic Accident
25 January 2016
Slater and Gordon Expert: Nic Collins is a senior personal injury solicitor at Slater and Gordon Lawyers in Cardiff.
Settlement Value: £157,500
What Happened: Our client was a passenger in a stationary car which was hit from behind by the defendant’s vehicle.
Although this was a relatively minor road traffic accident, our client went on to develop complications in the form of fibromyalgia – a long-term rheumatic condition that causes pain all over the body.
How Slater and Gordon Helped: As the exact causes of fibromyalgia can be contested, the issue of causation proved complex in this case. Slater and Gordon therefore sought the advice of a medical expert who proved key to our client being awarded compensation.
As our client needed to reduce her working hours, we argued that any compensation awarded should include an allowance for her future loss of earnings. We also argued that the claim should be settled to include a substantial amount of future medical care.
Decision: Our client was awarded £157,500 compensation.
