Trainee Personal Injury Solicitor Alison Head successfully secured £4,500 in compensation for her client who sustained partial hearing loss as a result of wearing a headset constantly while fitting phone lines during his career.

Alison’s client worked for BT as an engineer fitting phone lines on a daily basis. As part of his role, he had to wear a head set which sat in one ear all day.

It became apparent that the headsets were causing harm to all the employees who wore them and because of this, Alison’s client suffered from partial hearing loss in one ear.

Alison commissioned her client to have a hearing test by an independent medical professional. The defendants initially objected to the medical evidence obtained from the hearing test as the audiograms didn’t show a set pattern of hearing loss.

Lengthy negotiations proved that the headset did cause partial hearing damage to Alison’s client and as a result, the defendants eventually agreed a settlement figure of £4,500 in compensation.

Alison’s client was very happy with his settlement figure and understands that his hearing loss was difficult to prove to the defendants.
