Theatre Producer Acquitted of Fraud Allegations at Trial
08 September 2014
Our Business Crime & Regulation Lawyers successfully represented a noted theatre producer at Trial who had been accused of fraud.
Following a full contested hearing we were able to persuade a Jury that our client should be acquitted of all charges brought against him.
The allegations against our client asserted that he had improperly solicited investments from a number of private investors some of which came from overseas for theatre shows that he was producing. It was then said that those monies had then been diverted for his personal benefit and had not been invested as should have occurred.
The Crown asserted that the investments were restricted and had to be applied directly towards the shows concerned. We conducted a detailed analysis of the prosecution evidence and were able to establish that the money had not been sent to our client in those terms and that he was in fact able to apply the funds in the way which he had. We also called witnesses in support of our client’s defence to show how the money had been applied.
Our client who was about to become a father at the time, had his name cleared and was able to resume work again almost immediately.
