Compensation Recovered After Accident in a Public Place

09 October 2010

Our client’s son cycles professionally, and was attending an event where he was racing.  Towards the evening, our client was walking across some grass from the marshal point towards the finish line.  Suddenly, he slipped and tripped over a hole in the ground.  The man’s left foot fell into the hole, meaning that he fell to the floor twisting his ankle and knee. The defendant admitted liability, but argued that there was a degree of contributory negligence attributed to the events which led to the accident in a public place.  RJW’s expert accident in a public place solicitors strongly denied these claims. After expert opinions had been obtained, an offer of almost £3,000 was accepted by our client to compensate for the injuries suffered.
