Defamatory allegations against two officers in “Hoods” book

01 May 2010

We acted for two Nottinghamshire police officers following publication in a book entitled “Hoods” of allegations of their incompetence during a police investigation, some of which had serious consequences. The book was about the rise of organised crime in Nottingham as well as alleged police corruption, and highlighted the investigations surrounding the murders of Joan and John Stirland by a Nottingham crime lord, Colin Gunn. A settlement was quickly reached with amended wording agreed for any future re-print of the book, a letter of apology to one of the officers concerning a specific allegation against him, and payment of their legal costs.
