Slander case brought on behalf of a former Mayor after councillor alleged he was unfit for office

28 January 2010

This slander case was brought by our client Martin Peel, a Conservative Councillor of Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council and former Mayor, against a fellow Councillor, Cllr Clegg who had alleged on two occasions that our client was unfit to be Mayor. Represented by Slater and Gordon Lawyers, Mr Peel’s case was successfully settled close to trial, on the basis of an unreserved letter of apology and a contribution to costs.
