Male employee treated less favourably than females in part time role
29 January 2010
We advised a father who was working part time in a public sector role. A dispute arose with his employer about his hours of work, and he believed that his female part time colleagues were being treated more favourably than him. We advised that he should commence employment tribunal proceedings to protect his position, but that he should continue to try to reach an agreement with his employer. After the employment tribunal claim was issued, we were able to resolve the dispute in discussions with his employer. Our client was able to continue in his role on his preferred hours, without having to have his case decided by the employment tribunal.
