Libel claim brought against the Daily Star on behalf of former Gladiators TV personality

28 January 2010

Former Gladiator, Mr Warren Furman, instructed Sarah Webb to represent him against the Daily Star after it published a front-page article linking him to rape allegations made by Jordan, the model. The article reported his denials of ‘internet rumours’ that he had raped Jordan and in doing so implied that the ‘rumours’ were sufficiently serious to require a response from Mr Furman. In fact, the ‘internet rumours’ consisted of very few ambiguous posts on an internet chat forum. The Daily Star settled our client’s claim on the basis of a published apology, and payment of a substantial sum in damages and all his legal costs.
