Flexible working request denied at work after birth of baby

While on maternity leave, our client had asked her employer if she could return to work on reduced hours on her return. She wanted to change from a full-time 5-day week, to a 4-day week arrangement. She also wanted to change her hours to help her collect her child from nursery. Our client's flexible working request had been refused by her employer, at which point she sought our advice. We considered our client's request, and the business reasons for her employer's refusal, and assisted her in drafting an appeal which not only made a good business case for her flexible working arrangement, but also helped demonstrate why the reasons given by the employer to refuse the request were not justified. Through this process, our client was able to persuade her employer to grant the alternative arrangement.
