Chris is a Principal Lawyer in the Family Law team in Manchester with over 20 years’ experience specialising in financial and children arrangements following separation and divorce.
He is one of a limited number of dual qualified Resolution and Children Panel Accredited specialists in the country, which provides him with the expertise to assist clients throughout a case, including appeals to the High Court and Court of Appeal.
He has extensive experience of dealing with and awareness of the most important issues which matter when representing officers, including financial arrangements relating to the family home, investments, pay issues and pensions, as well as sorting child living arrangements to fit around busy shift patterns.
Central to his approach and support of clients at their most vulnerable, is a belief that each family is unique. Every client will have circumstances that will require careful consideration of their individual needs, and he strives for a positive outcome.
As clients increasingly seek to resolve any disputes as quickly as possible without unnecessary cost and upset, Chris seeks to guide clients through sympathetic negotiation, including table meetings and utilising mediation or other alternative dispute resolution. His approach is non-confrontational and takes into account the needs of the whole family.
“You took time out of your incredibly rushed schedule to take a look at my case. You were minutes away from some well-earned annual leave and could have easily been too busy to read through the massive documents emailed. I am a police officer and have had dealings with non-molestation orders numerous times. I have only had the one with my name written on the top, which was absolutely terrifying. The short conversation with you helped guide me to how to finalise my statement/evidence to court and what to say while sat with the judge. Your support and guidance was greatly appreciated.”

“Chris Fairhurst gave me advice regarding my financial arrangement and child maintenance appeal. His advice was excellent and I won. The appeal was allowed, the finding being that care of my son is equal. I now don’t have massive back payments I thought I might, plus I’ll get back what I paid. I really can’t thank you enough.”
