Recovery and future quality of life is the most important concern of any injured person, The Civil Procedure Rules 1998 and The Rehabilitation Code 2007, sets out a framework for insurers to make funds immediately available for rehabilitation of patients, and for other current needs.
Slater and Gordon Lawyers recognise the importance of its legal duty to work with medical professionals, to understand how the patient would benefit from early intervention and to assess future needs in order to secure appropriate insurance payments quickly. Patients seriously injured in Road Traffic Accidents and Accidents at Work will often be entitled to access insurance payments.
Insurance Payments May Cover:
- Neuro-rehabilitation treatment
- Access to drugs not available on the NHS
- Bone healing devices
- Choice of prosthetics including osteo-integrated prosthetics
- Assistive technologies
- Limb therapy
How Clients Benefit from the Rehabilitation Code
Les finds his path to recovery through compensation - Les' story:
"They told me with the quality of prosthetics today, I could get my life back. It was the best decision I ever made" Les said.
Les had his leg amputated as a result of an accident at work. Our Solicitors secured funding for a high performance prosthetic leg, domestic care and vocational rehabilitation. He now enjoys jogging, playing football and leads an active, healthy life. Les now lives in a purpose-built bungalow and has returned to work, he says ‘I have no plans to retire anytime soon’. Without the funding secured by Slater and Gordon the outcome for Les would not have been so successful, as he had previously been in pain and unable to work.
Les is now back at work and is able to jog, and kick a football. With his high performance prosthetic leg; to quote Les, he's got his life back.
Christine: "Moving house relieved an awful lot of pressure”.
Christine, a former GP nurse, suffered Spinal Cord Injury in a Cycling Accident. The significant and life changing loss of her independence and interaction with friends and family has been a great source of sadness for her. We worked with her to instigate a domestic care assessment, to secure immediate support for social care and to arrange a financial settlement to make up for loss of earnings. Christine and her family have moved to a home that is fully wheelchair-accessible and she is receiving the care and support she needs.
Yvonne: "While I was in hospital, things at home were being fixed quickly which was a big relief to my family”.
Yvonne was cycling along George Lane in Woodford, Cheshire when she was hit by a car, causing severe Brain Injury. Her injuries were life threatening and required emergency surgery to remove a blood clot from her brain. This left her scarred and her intellectual and cognitive processes to make decisions were severely impaired.
