Road Safety Week: Keeping Britain's Roads Safe with Safer Vehicles
At Slater and Gordon, we are proudly supporting Road Safety Week, which this year focuses on safe vehicles, aiming to make sure that every time we get in a vehicle we are as safe as possible.
One of the UK’s leading specialist law firms.
We are proud to have partnerships with national charities and be recognised in the latest legal directories.
Road Safety Week 2025
Every year, more than 1,700 people die on UK roads, with another 30,000 receiving serious, life-changing injuries. The numbers are shocking, and there has been no significant change for a decade.
At Slater and Gordon, we are proudly supporting Road Safety Week, an annual campaign created by the charity Brake in 1967 in efforts to reduce road traffic injuries and fatalities.
The focus of the campaign this year is safe vehicles, aiming to make sure that every time we get in a vehicle we are as safe as possible.
Tracey Benson, Head of Serious Injury at Slater and Gordon South, says on the importance of Road Safety Week: “Road safety is critical to protecting the welfare of all road users and there can never be too many opportunities to remind people. Road Safety Week provides a focal point in the year for drawing attention to the vital importance of this, and helps to reinforce the fact that being safe and considerate will help to protect ourselves and others and will save lives.
At Slater and Gordon, we are only too keen to give our backing to Road Safety Week and to help in spreading awareness as far as possible, to reach as many people as we can with this hugely important message.”
Public safety on our roads
Recent research conducted by Slater and Gordon has highlighted some important statistics around our collective thoughts on road safety, and what could be done to enable us to all feel safer on our roads.
Key findings include:
- 16% of people across the UK don’t feel safe using the roads in their local area
- 48% avoid certain roads because they feel unsafe
- 55% believe the roads in the area have become more dangerous over the last year
- 19% of people witness dangerous driving in their area multiple times a day
Despite this, the research also found that 27% of participants admitted to eating or drinking whilst driving, and 23% admitted to driving over the speed limit.
Our Partnership with Brake
Slater and Gordon is a proud partner of Brake and also legal panel members of its National Road Victim Service.
Our partnership is rooted in shared beliefs in line with Brake’s vision for Road Safety Week, “a world where no one is killed or hurt on a road, and we can all move in a safe and healthy way, whoever we are and however we travel.
